Saleina water intake

The Saleina water intake is located on the Reuse de Saleina at an elevation of 1572 metres. It is the second most important EAST collector intake after Fouly.

The catchment area of the intake structure covers 20.3 km². The spill top of this concrete gravity dam is located at an altitude of 1572 metres. This intake is fitted with a sector-type drain valve. It is controlled by a hydraulic cylinder controlled either locally or remotely from the Bâtiaz control room. The captured water is led into a 50-metre-long grit trap which is 2 metres wide on its lower part and 5 metres wide on its upper part. This is fitted with an automatic MOLBERT-type clogging probe and a BOURNE-type flush valve.

A return flow rate of 400 litres/second can be observed during the day and 200 litres/second at night during the summer season from June 01 to September 30. The water then runs towards Trient. It is important to note that this intake often needs to be drained. During storms or high flow rates, the intake and the grit trap become clogged. It needs to be opened in such an event.
